Former tour player Lesley Nicholson has become the first lady golfer to play in the Winter League since Diane Martin last turned out for Gifford a quarter of a century ago.

Lesley paired up with her brother Keith on Sunday and their 4&2 win against Musselburgh Old’s Scott McFarlane and Tyler Hood helped Haddington to a 4-1 victory and a place on top of the Division 2 table.

The league recently voted to allow women to play and skipper George Blair has been quick to take advantage of the rule change, with Lesley proving the ladies aren’t here just to make up the numbers.
