Royal stake promotion claim as Tantallon falter

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Dec 02 2013 at 04:00PM PST in 2019-20

Royal Musselburgh dealt out their second whitewash of the campaign on Sunday, this time at home to neighbours Musselburgh Old, and in so doing moved into second spot with an impressive goal difference. Meanwhile Tantallon stayed on top after a draw at Whitekirk, although only time will tell whether that result was a point gained or a point lost for the leaders.

And in a table that remains tightly bunched it looks like Dunbar, Tantallon and Royal Musselburgh are the principle contenders for two promotion spots.  These three have already played each other with one win and one defeat apiece, so the race is set to depend on results against the rest.

And Haddington could yet have their say.  George Blair’s side have suffered a couple of setbacks this term, but still have to face all three of the main contenders, starting with Dunbar this coming Sunday.

But there could be more drama before Christmas, with the current “big three” all away on the 15th.  On that date it will be Tantallon’s turn to go to Haddington, whilst Royal face a tricky trip to Whitekirk and Dunbar return to Castle Park where they lost heavily in last season’s Cup.
