New season set to tee off

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Sep 23 2017 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019-20

With the new Winter League season just days away it's time to dust off the mits and woolly hats and get ready for some red hot inter club competition once again.

Although Dunbar turned down their opportunity to return to league action this season, we welcome back Castle Park, absent since January 2015. That brings league numbers up to 14 with seven in each division and a very busy fixture list in the months ahead.

Craigielaw, Musselburgh and Tantallon are newly promoted and they join Haddington, North Berwick and Royal Musselburgh as the challengers trying to stop Gullane achieving an unprecedented five titles in a row.

Meanwhile there's sure to be a scrap in the lower flight where Kilspindie and Longniddry drop down to face the likes of Glen - who missed out on the 1st division by the narrowest of margins last term, and perennial promotion challengers Gifford. Newbies Castle Park promise to bring a blend of youth and experience and will be hoping to join the chase for 2nd Division honours.
