Top three to go head to head in title race

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Dec 25 2016 at 04:00PM PST in 2019-20

Royal Musselburgh top the table going in to the Christmas break, but with three teams left in the title race there's still all to play for.  North Berwick are just a point off the pace with defending champions Gullane a single point further back. And with these three all still to face each other, each side knows they still control their own destiny.

First up in the sequence of head-to-heads is North Berwick's visit to Gullane on 8th January.  Chris Wood's team drew here in January 2015 and lost narrowly just over a year ago, but they might just fancy their chances having beaten the defending champions on home soil in November.

Three weeks later North Berwick will find themselves on the road again, this time at Royal Musselburgh where they haven't won for 4 years.  Should Royal Musselburgh take a win from a difficult visit to Longniddry early in the New Year they will go into this 29th January clash looking to put one hand on the trophy.

But even if they manage that, John Hall knows a last-day-of-the-season visit to Gullane will most likely stand between his team and the league title.  Gullane still have their sights set on a 4th consecutive title, and if one thing's for certain it's that this season is set to go to the wire.
