Glen and Haddington were both defeated on Sunday and so dropped out of the running for promotion.  Kilspindie improved their points difference advantage with an emphatic home win despite three ties going to the final green, whilst North Berwick took two more points on the road - this time at Thorntree.  Winterfield came through a stern test against Haddington to remain in the race, leaving the top three separated by just a single point.  But something has to give in a fortnight when North Berwick travel to Kilspindie.

 

Meanwhile Gullane cemented their position on top of the Div 1 table with a solid win at home against Musselburgh.  The visitors put up a fight in the top three matches, taking one tie and losing out on the final green in another.  But Simmonds and Dickson prevailed at the top of the draw whilst the home pairs took command lower down the order to secure both points.

 

The win opens up a 4 point gap, although challengers Tantallon will be in action before Gullane play their next league match on 24th Feb.

 

For now the leaders can turn their attention to the Cup with a return match against Musselburgh looming on Sunday, this time away at Monktonhall.  Meanwhile Kilspindie host Winterfield in a battle of the Div 2 promotion hopefuls, whilst Craigielaw welcome the Glen.  Musselburgh Old travel to Gifford in a clash between two of the lower order teams, both of whom have recently tasted league success against higher placed clubs.

 

Tantallon will start as favourites at home to Longniddry, whilst North Berwick face a tricky assignment at Haddington, a team they have beaten twice already this term but who will now be focused on the Cup having seen their league promotion hopes ended with Sunday’s defeat.

 

Meanwhile it’s derby day in Prestonpans where Thorntree take on Royal Musselburgh.
