Kilspindie, Gullane and Craigielaw through to Semi Finals

Kilspindie prevailed in an epic Cup quarter final on Sunday at Longniddry’s expense, to set up a home semi-final against defending League and Cup champions Gullane.

It was a bitter end for the visitors who had claimed their quarter final place only after winning away at Tantallon in extra holes.  This time Longniddry led 2-1 with two matches all square after the regulation 18, but they weren’t able to claim the point they needed for victory.

In what turned out to be the deciding tie Porteous & Sproull were 3 up for the visitors at the turn, but a decent run of holes for home pairing Gray & Thomson saw them draw level on the 16th.  At that point Longniddry had already won two ties with the top match heading into extra holes.  And when Porteous & Sproull won the 17th it looked as though the visitors were set for another away win.

But Hall & Watters won the 19th hole at the top of the order for Kilspindie then Hay and Robertson took the bottom tie for the hosts to level the score.

With the match outcome now depending on their result Gray & Thomson bravely won the 18th to take it to extra time, where halves in par on the first two holes saw the match heading further out onto the course. Then Thomson rolled in a 12 footer on the third to claim the tie and the match, and put Kilspindie into the semi-final.

Elsewhere Craigielaw defeated Musselburgh Old only after taking two ties on the 18th green, in a match that had been switched to Craigielaw after a change of scheduling at Musselburgh race track.  Gullane came away victorious from their visit to Royal Musselburgh.

So that sets up 1st vs 2nd Division matches in both semi-finals, with North Berwick travelling to Craigielaw, whilst Kilspindie host Gullane.

Meantime attention turns back to the league with Musselburgh visiting Craigielaw this Sunday in search of the points they still need to secure their place in the top flight, whilst Musselburgh Old host Gifford in the 2nd Division.
