Gullane take over at the top

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Feb 13 2016 at 04:00PM PST in 2019-20

Gullane came away from Sunday's trip to Royal Musselburgh with a win that sees them move top of the league for the first time this season.

With every match going at least as far as the seventeenth, the defending champions were pushed all the way but held their nerve to win the top three ties and take both league points.  The victory came just seven days after Rob Jack's team beat the same opponents at home, and that double put an end to Royal's title hopes.

With just one league match remaining Gullane can complete their title defence if they avoid defeat at Musselburgh in a fortnight.  However they can expect stern resistance as Musselburgh go into that match needing a win to make sure they avoid relegation.

North Berwick are the only remaining challengers and they go to Royal Musselburgh on 28th February with a chance to steal the title should Gullane slip up.

But before then Weston Main's side have a more direct opportunity to unseat the champions.  They face Gullane this Sunday 21st February in the Cup semi final, whilst Gifford host Kilspindie in the other half of the draw.
