This time last year Longniddry were languishing in the relegation zone, and with three matches left to play they were two points adrift of safety.  Indeed their survival in the 1st Division was only secured when they held on for a draw at Tantallon in the final match of the season.

Now they find themselves in a similar situation, but if Peter Henderson's team are to produce a repeat performance it may need to start with a win over league leaders Royal Musselburgh.

However that result may not be as unlikely as the league table suggests.  In their run in to Christmas Longniddry recorded a win at Gullane, and were never behind at North Berwick until their hosts recorded birdies on the final hole in each of the three ties that went the distance.  They enjoy home advantage against the leaders and Royal will have to be at their best.

Kilspindie and Haddington face each other on 8th January in a match that neither team can really afford to lose.  These two remain locked in the relegation battle, and both have still to face Longniddry before the season is over.
