Gullane beat Kilspindie to retain Cup

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Mar 05 2016 at 04:00PM PST in 2019-20

Gullane came out on top in the Cup Final against Kilspindie at The Glen on Sunday 6th March.  The win was good enough to complete the league and cup double for the third consecutive year.

The defending champions got off to a good start, building substantial advantages in the top two ties by the half way stage.  But whilst Walker and Roberts finished their match off on the short 13th, Hay and Roberts fought back for Kilspindie in the 2nd tie taking the 10th, 13th and 16th to narrow their deficit to a single hole.

However there was a setback for the 2nd Division Champions when Hamilton and Hall 3-putted from close range on the 13th to fall two behind when it looked as though they might have a chance to level their match.  After that it was one way traffic as Gullane moved two or three holes clear ineach of the remaining ties.  In the end it was Duncan Low and Alan Smith that secured the winning point on the 16th green, although within minutes there were handshakes on the 15th and 17th greens as Robert Jack's team completed the whitewash.

Kilspindie must content themselves with their league success, and the promotion they earned means they will have more chances to square up to Gullane next season.
