Gullane and Royal go head to head for league title

Posted by Torquil McInroy on Feb 17 2017 at 04:00PM PST in 2019-20

Royal Musselburgh travel to Gullane this Sunday in search of their first league title in thirteen years.  Royal joined the league in 1975 and claimed the Matthew Black trophy in their second competitive season, their first of eleven titles including a dominant stretch of nine in the fourteen seasons from 1990 to 2004.

And with a point advantage in the league table John Hall knows a draw is enough to finish the job and claim a record 12th title for his team.

But Royal aren't the only side with an eye on the record books this weekend. Gullane can claim a fourth consecutive league title if they win - an achievement that has never been bettered, but was previously achieved by Longniddry and Dunbar.

And with both teams in opposite Cup semi finals next weekend, there's still a chance of another showdown in next month's Cup Final !

But for now all eyes are on the battle for the league title, and there's sure to be a thrilling contest on Sunday.
